Gino Sarfatti

Born in Venice in 1912, Gino Sarfatti graduated from the University of Genes in aero naval engineering but then decided to take another step in another field. He creates his own lighting company whose reputation is not to prove anymore : Arteluce. He is one of the greatest lighting designer of the XX° century. Passionated and fascinated by light, we find in his work his willing to always go further and dig always deeper in terms of technology and experimentation. This quest of new materials, creating original and fantastic designs, is what made his reputation and singularity.

He won many prices over the year, such as the very famous Gold Compas in 1954 and 1955. In 1973 Flos buys Arteluce, before Sarfatti death in 1985. Unique luminaires then became cult, such as the « 2097 » pendant light or the « 600 » lamp, today considered as design icons.
