Alvaro Siza was born in 1933 in Matosinhos, Portugal. He is an architect and one of the famous figures of contemporary architecture.

He graduated from the Graduate School of Fine Arts in Porto in 1955, where he attended courses on painting, sculpture and architecture.

These projects show his characteristic ability to integrate designs with the distinct qualities of their environment.

His agency is composed of 20 architects and works with multiple contributors. Alvaro Siza believes that the meeting between different opportunities and different cultural approaches allows the projects to mature. He worked for FontanaArte on the Falena creation in 1994.

Internationally renowned, Alvaro Siza remains committed to teaching. He has participated in many conferences and seminars throughout Europe, North and South America and Japan. He has been invited to teach at the Polytechnic School of Lausanne, the University of Pennsylvania, the University of the Andes in Bogota, and Harvard University Graduate School of Design Kenzo Tange while employed at the school of Architecture at the University of Porto.

In addition, he has received many important international awards, including the Mies van der Rohe, a gold medal from the Alvar Aalto Foundation, the Arnold W. Brunner Memorial Prize, the Pritzker Prize and the Praemium Imperiale.
