Italian designer Roberto Menghi was born in Milan in 1920 and graduated from the Polytechnic in 1944. Right after, he served in World War II. After the armistice, his opposition to the re-establishment of the Social Republic led to him being interned in the concentration camp in Czestochowa. Finally back in his hometown, he decided to open his own architectural firm. Not only focused on architectural activities, his firm also pursued interior decoration and industrial design. He received two awards at the Triennale, notably the Gran Premio for glass and design work, as well as two Compasso d'Oro awards for design. He designed the series Globo di Luce lamps made of blown glass for FontanaArte in 1968. In the architectural field, he has devoted himself to the renovation of buildings that were of particular artistic interest, such as the Palace of Jurists in Milan. He also taught architecture at the University of Venice and Milan and taught design at the Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan and at the Academy of Bath. Roberto Manghi died in Milan in 2006 at the age of 86.
